Community Outreach Helping Homeless Through Frigid Temperatures

(ABILENE, Texas)--As temperatures drop the number of folks looking to find shelter from the cold rises.

Especially those who are homeless, find themselves hanging out in public businesses passing the time in the warmth.

KRBC News did the leg work and spoke to several businesses downtown about this concern.  We found that this winter in particular,  businesses have seen a drop in the amount of homeless they see wondering around outside or trying to come inside to stay warm.

It's not uncommon for homeless seek refuge from the cold at places like the Abilene Public Library, but Lori Grumet with the library says that's not so much the case anymore.

"The social services downtown do a really good job of making sure they have warm clothing, a hot meal," said Grumet.
