Congressman Jodey Arrington Champions West Texas Beef and Cotton

Washington, D.C. (KTAB/KRBC) - During a House Agriculture Committee hearing focused on the state of the rural economy, Congressman Jodey Arrington expressed West Texas enthusiasm over China once again importing U.S. beef, but also discussed the importance of restoring cotton to a level playing field.

In a press release Arrington said, “In West Texas agriculture is life—it’s our identity—but, cotton is king. All ag producers are struggling, for reasons you already know, but cotton is the only commodity out of Title I – just completely exposed to the market risks, and volatility, and market manipulation that we’ve seen from China and others. It’s a crisis.

Arrington continued, “If I achieve anything as the representative from West Texas District 19, I hope it’s working with you to find relief for our cotton farmers, and equity in the treatment of cotton as a commodity relative to the others.”

Congressman Jodey Arrington is a member of United States House of Representatives serving the Nineteenth Congressional District of Texas. He serves as a member of the House Agricultural Committee, House Budget Committee, and Chairman of the House Veterans' Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity.
