Congressman Jodey Arrington Visits Abilene

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) - Congressman Jodey Arrington was in Abilene on Saturday to host a U.S. Service Academy Forum at Cisco College.

Prospective members of the armed forces met with representatives of the different academies. Congressman Arrington spoke about the importance of the military and the challenging process of getting a spot in an academy.

In addition to learning more about different branches of the military, two local young men were recognized for having been selected.

Michael Shubert is bound for the Naval Academy in Annapolis, and Cade McClanahan is headed to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.

Cade is very proud of his accomplishment, saying, "About ten thousand people apply to the academy every year and only a little over a thousand get accepted every year. So just  kind of getting to know that I'm among the very small percentage of people who get to go, it's a really nice feeling I get when I think about it."

The selection process is very competitive, with very few of the applicants being chosen to be a part of a United States service academy.
