$825,000 worth of cotton destroyed in Roscoe gin fire

ROSCOE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - $825,000 worth of cotton was destroyed when a gin caught fire in Roscoe early Friday morning.

The fire, which ignited at the Central Rolling Plains Co-Op Cotton Gin off Hwy 84, will continue to burn for days, but the Sweetwater Fire Department says the damage has been contained to 150 modules of cotton.

Members of the Sweetwater, Roscoe, and Snyder Fire Departments battled the blaze for over 12 hours, beginning around 2:00 a.m.

"The progress of the fire was stopped by the gin workers and their module trucks while the firemen protected them and kept the fire from getting to the un-burned cotton," a social media post from the Sweetwater Fire Department reads.

Gin personnel are now watching the fire to ensure it remains contained.
