Eastland ISD Proposes $12 Million Bond

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) - On Tuesday, the Eastland Independent School District Board voted unanimously to call an election in May 2017.

One of the items on the ballot will be a $12.2 million bond proposal made up of two propositions.

The first proposition consists of $8.5 million. It is focused on updating the high school, improving the accessibility to the upper floors and limiting the access points into the building to enhance the safety, security and learning of the students.

Accessibility issues will be solved by installing elevators and another stairwell. Restrooms will also be added to the upper floors. As well, classrooms will be given a facelift, and an added wing will create more chemistry labs and classrooms.

A main entrance with proper security and offices will be installed at the front of the building, addressing the security concern for the high school.

The second proposition consists of $3.7 million. This proposition will deal with refinancing current debt in an attempt to free up upwards of $300k-$400k a year for the district to apply towards maintenance and operations.

The Eastland ISD School Board held community meetings over the past 18 months in an attempt hear from members of the community to find out what they thought the most important issues facing the schools are.
