Former First Lady Visits Abilene

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) -  Former First Lady Laura Bush was in Abilene talking about one of her passions, women's health. It's the focus at the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health on the Abilene campus of the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center.

"She was here in 2012 for another non-profit and to have her back though actually speaking for her own institute that is named after her is quite a rarity here in Abilene," stated Joy Ellinger, event chair for the event.

Tonights "Conversation with Mrs. Bush" saw almost 600 guests. All proceeds from the event will go directly back into research at the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health.

"The institute aims to have programs for women to further their physical education," added Ellinger, "and for pre-teens and mothers to do programs together."

The Abilene campus was opened in September of 2016.
