Former Sweetwater teacher, coach indicted for additional child sex crimes

SWEETWATER, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - A former Sweetwater middle school teacher and coach has been charged with additional child sex crimes.

On Friday, Kevin Oliver was arraigned on a Sexual Assault of a Child charge and Indecency with a Child charge in connection to a new criminal case filed against him. No details on this case are available at this time.

Oliver was previously indicted on three charges connected to an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student - Sexual Assault of a Child, Improper Relationship between Educator and Student, and Indecency with a Child.

The warrants were issued out of Nolan County, but the Nolan County District Attorney has recused himself from the case, so Taylor County is taking over.

Oliver resigned from his position at Sweetwater ISD after the Sweetwater Police Department began investigating the allegations in September of 2016.

Sweetwater ISD Superintendent confirmed Oliver was a teacher and coach at Sweetwater Middle School when the investigation began. He also worked at the high school as a football coach, according to Pittman.

Oliver was released from jail the same day he was arrested after posting a $45,000 bond.
