(ABILENE, Texas)-- Abilene residents took advantage of the city's free water barrels Monday afternoon.

By 2 p.m. all rain barrels and kits were gone! The Keep Abilene Beautiful program advertised the barrels early Monday morning to residents at the Oak Street Recycling Center.

The barrels are handed out first come, first serve every quarter.

KRBC's Anavid Reyes learned a little bit more about how Abilineans are benefiting from this event financially and the other ways it is helping mother nature.

Turns out, residents saved about $80 by picking up one of the free rain barrels at the center.

You're definitely helping out your environment by reducing the amount of storm water runoff and collecting the rain draining from your roof.
