‘Gomer Pyle' star Jim Nabors dies at 87

(WFLA) – Jim Nabors, the actor known for his role as Gomer Pyle on The Andy Griffith Showhas died, according to multiple sources.

The Alabama native, who recently lived in Hawaii passed away Thursday, Hawaii News Now reports.

Nabors became famous in the early 1960s, with his role as the cheerful, bumbling deputy on The Andy Griffith Show, and it’s spin-off show, Gomer Pyle.

He went on to star in movies including The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and Cannonball Run II.

Nabors was also known for his distinct voice. For decades, Nabors sang “Back Home Again in Indiana” before the start of every Indy 500 race.

Nabors leaves behind his partner of 40 years.

He was 87.
