Hardin-Simmons University undertakes several renovation and construction projects

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) - It's certainly an exciting time on campus at Hardin-Simmons University, as a number of projects are underway.

Another project kicked off on Friday with a groundbreaking ceremony. This new student apartment building on Vogel street joins two other works in progress - a new fitness center and a new video board for the football field.

The new apartments come with increased enrollment, and as Board of Trustees member Dr. Michael Waters says, "We are full. We don't have any more room in our dormitories and apartments. We're smack full."

HSU President Eric Bruntmyer says that offering more student housing is a "no-brainer". He cites studies, saying, "Students who live on campus have higher GPAs, higher retention, and higher graduation rates.

While that project is just begining, the fitness center is in the middle of its work, with excavation happening throughout the morning near the groundbreaking for the apartments.

And another project is nearly finished, as the steel supports for the new video board were set up later in the day. The board itself is set to be installed within the week.

All of these projects are part of the Transformation 2020 campaign to reinvigorate the campus in the coming years.
