High water forces Big Country emergency crews to stage at gas station

(KTAB/KRBC) - Big Country emergency crews sent to south Texas to help with the impact of Hurricane Harvey were forced to stage at a gas station due to high water overnight Sunday.

Taylor County EMS reported that after they spent Sunday in evacuating 180 residents from a nursing home in the area, they were forced to stage at a Bucees in Katy as water began to rise in the area.

They were joined by around 100 other ambulances, fire strike teams, and more, including teams from Sweetwater Fire and Rescue, the Abilene Fire Department, and TIFMAS.

Sweetwater Fire and Rescue posted about staying at Bucees Sunday night, saying Bucees allowed all the first responders to eat and drink on their dime, as well as provided them with a dry place to sleep.
