How to support families affected by fatal Eastland house fire

EASTLAND, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - A small shine adorned with stuffed animals, artwork, and cards lines the fence in front of an Eastland home where a little girl and her stepfather were killed late Friday night.

The families of 4-year-old Karleigh Ann Cox and 32-year-old Kenny Osteen are mourning the loss of their loved ones as donations come in from across the Big Country.

Family members say Osteen died a hero, running back inside the burning home on the  200 block of Daughterty Avenue to rescue Karleigh from a closet after pulling his other stepdaughter, 7-year-old Emily, to safety.

Emily is now recovering in ICU at a Dallas hospital with 4th-degree burns on 30% of her body, leaving her in need of multiple surgeries and skin grafts.

Anyone who wants to brighten Emily's day during these dark times is asked to send her a card or a letter, because "she just loves people."

Mail can be sent to the following address:

Emily Carroll
Parkland Hospital
5200 Harry Hines Blvd
Room 625
Dallas, Tx 75235

The displaced family members are in need of the following clothing items:

  • Girls size 10-12
  • Girls shoes size 3
  • Boys size 2t
  • Boys shoes size 7
  • Women's size 12 pants
  • Women's shoes size 9
  • Sports bra size medium

Donations can be brought to Eastland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at 700 S. Ostrom Avenue.

Two GoFundMe pages have also been established in memory of Kenny and Karleigh to raise money for their funerals as well as Emily's ongoing medical bills.

Wednesday, a benefit will take place at the LumberYard Event at 313 W Main Street beginning at noon to raise money for the families affected by this tragedy. Free hotdogs and trimmings will be served.

Another benefit will be held at Shannon's Burger Barn in Cisco Saturday - a bake sale with donations going to the family.

The cause of the fatal fire has not been determined. BigCountryHomepage will provide more information on this incident as additional details are released.
