How you can help keep the key city beautiful

Keep Abilene Beautiful, formerly known as Abilene Clean and Proud, was established back in 1986. We need trees, water, plants but also a clean environment to live in. The city of Abilene are looking for volunteers to help take responsibility for improving the communities environment. To keep this city clean for a long time it has to start with educating the youth. Nicole Eaves, the coordinator for Keeping Abilene Beautiful says, "we work a lot in our school's and we work with children to realize how they are affecting our environment and things they can do different on an everyday basis to improve our community."

Involvement is key, and with the assistance of a coordinator it helps relieve some worries. They provide the trash bags and the disposal along with trash grabbers. The only thing they are lacking is the volunteer power. Eaves states, "we are a non-profit, so we do our own fundraising to secure those supplies, so we can provide it to the individuals who want to out." They can help identify areas that are in need of a clean up or point you in the right direction.

Other things they are involved in throughout the city of Abilene include liter cleanups, tree plantings and flower plantings, and different beautification opportunities for people to get involved in. If you are unable to volunteer, that's fine. Donations are accepted to help those who are willing to start start the Mr. Clean movement. If you are interested in learning more or starting your own project you can attend a meeting the first Wednesday of every month. The meetings are held in the basement meeting room at City Hall and begins at 12:00 Noon, which lasts for one hour.
