Intersection of SH 351, I-20 closing September 5-14

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - In a press release, the Texas Department of Transportation has announced more closures for the intersection of SH 351 and I-20.

The intersection will be closed September 5 through September 14. During this time both turnarounds will still be open, and normal detour routes will be in place.

The full release follows:

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 5, the intersection of SH 351 at I-20 will be closed until Sept. 14 while contractors work directly beneath the I-20 bridge. Both turnarounds will be open during this time. Thru-traffic will detour to FM 600 or to Loop 322, depending on the direction of travel.

Work in and around the SH 351 intersection is nearing completion, with a target end date of early October. The finished intersection will include a durable, long-lasting concrete surface that requires minimal maintenance.

Demolition of the eastbound I-20 bridge was completed last week, and traffic is currently running in one lane each direction on the westbound bridge. Complete reconstruction of both bridges is expected to be finished by Spring 2018. Bridge work includes illumination, installation of metal beam guard fence, and widening to six lanes to accommodate increased traffic capacity in the future.
