BROWN COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - The Lake Brownwood Lions Club is under investigation for "substantial internal theft" that has caused them to pull funding from several community projects including Bingo, scholarships, grants, and more.
The Brown County Sheriff's Office confirmed the investigation to KTAB and KRBC Thursday morning. Sheriff Vance Hill says the investigation began when the Lions Club reported the theft about five weeks ago.
No arrests have been made in connection to this incident and the individual suspected of the crime has not been publicly identified because the investigation is still ongoing.
The exact dollar amount of stolen funds has also not been disclosed, but Sheriff Hill did say the amount was so substantial, it's begun to impact the Lions Club community outreach projects.
Sheriff Hill says several students and organizations slated to receive scholarships and grants through the Lions Club have received letters saying the funds are no longer available due to the reported theft.
The Lions Club has also suspended their Bingo operation in light of the investigation, according to Sheriff Hill.
KTAB and KRBC have made several attempts to contact the Lake Brownwood Lions Club and its members, but as of 11:45 a.m. Thursday, those attempts have been unsuccessful.
