Library, event center, cafe, and more proposed for old Lincoln Middle School

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Big plans are in the works for Abilene's old Lincoln Middle School building, including a library, cafe, event center, and more.

Organizers behind the concept for Abilene's Heritage Square, the new proposed name for the property on the corner of S. 1st Street and Grape Street, presented their plans to city council members during Thursday's meeting, garnering large support from the council.

A 3-minute long video showcases what could happen with the property, such as creating a library, cafe, innovative business center, an auditorium, live event center out on the lawn, and spaces to rent for weddings, parties, and other events.

No official decisions on the property were made during Thursday's City Council meeting. The council will later discuss donating the property to the Abilene Heritage Square project.

The property, originally the Abilene High School campus in the 1920s, later became Lincoln Middle School and has sat abandoned since 2007.

BigCountryHomepage will continue to monitor the Abilene Heritage Square project as it continues through the city council process. Check back for any updates.
