Man accused of knocking over Abilene officer arrested after 40-mile pursuit

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - The man accused of knocking over an Abilene police officer then leading authorities on a chase for more than 40 miles has been taken into custody, according to police on scene.

His name was not immediately released.

The officer who was knocked down was not hurt, police said.

Abilene police said the incident started when a man driving a blue Jeep Liberty was stopped for a traffic violation Friday evening.

Police said it was discovered the man was lying about his identity. When officers were trying to get him out of the vehicle, he took off and knocked an officer down.

A chase then ensued through south Abilene before going eastbound on Interstate 20. It ended just west of Cisco on mile marker 324.

DPS troopers were able to use spike strips to end the chase.

Police said the man was arrested and drugs and alcohol were found inside the vehicle.
