SWEETWATER, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - During a specially called meeting, Sweetwater ISD named a new Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction.
Superintendent Dr. George McFarland named Melinda McCarty the new Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for Sweetwater ISD on Monday, July 24.
Mrs. McCarty received her bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Southern Methodist University, and her masters of Education Administration from Sul Ross State University.
Most recently, she served as Executive Director of Academics for the Texas Leadership Charter Academy. She taught at Abilene High School, and has served in administrative capacities for Abilene ISD and Wylie ISD.
Mrs. McCarty holds Elementary, Special Education, Principal and Superintendent certifications. Currently, she is completing a fellowship in Curriculum Leadership from the Texas Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
“Mrs. McCarty brings an enormous amount of knowledge in the areas of curriculum and instruction to the district, as well as an incredible work ethic that will help propel Sweetwater ISD into the upper echelon of schools in academic performance in this region,” Dr. McFarland said. “In addition, having worked with her previously in an administrative capacity, I know she values the importance that I place on putting students first in everything that we do here in the district,” he added.
Of her new role, McCarty said, “The focus on purpose, people and pride will allow us to center everything we do on making the educational experience the best for the children of Sweetwater. I look forward to forging relationships with the students, educators and citizens of Sweetwater as we build on the strong traditions already established here, and as we continue to grow the level of Pride there is in being a Mustang!”
