National Wreaths Across America Day is Saturday

Abilene, Texas (KRBC) - Honoring our fallen service men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifices for our freedoms, that is the mission for the National Wreaths Across America Day, happening this Saturday at 11 AM. This will be the third time Abilene will be hosting their own wreath laying ceremony. Roxanne Klump was the one who brought the wreaths to the Key City.

"I think it means so much, I have had just wonderful phone calls and called on people and everybody is so excited and grateful that the ceremony happens and this remembrance happens for their loved ones," said Klump.

The wreaths arrived Tuesday morning at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, and several people are volunteering their time to help with preparations, including the truck drivers who brought the wreaths.

"It is great, it kind of gives me that opportunity give that honor back to those that have served before me, laid down their lives and you know that's why I served, I have been serving for 15 years now and I wouldn't have it any other way," said Staff Sergeant Carlos Daniel.

"I believe it is important to honor our veterans because without them this country would not be like anything it is," said Bert Simpson, Patriot Guard.

They hope everyone will come out to the event on Saturday to help honor and support those who served even if you do not have someone that died there.
