New Development with Retail and Restaurant Space Proposed in South Abilene

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Plans for a new shopping center with several retail options and restaurants are underway in Abilene.

The Board of Adjustment approved the first phase of these plans to develop an area of S. Clack Street.

A representative with the company that would undertake the new development spoke at the Board of Adjustment meeting and said the new development, dubbed the Abilene Village, will feature space for businesses that range in size from 72,000 square feet to just over 2,500 square feet.

Plans also propose a vehicle bridge that would stretch over Catclaw Creek to connect this new Abilene Village to the Shops of Abilene, according to the representative.

Burlington is the only corporation that's publicly announced intent to move into this new development. In February, Burlington expressed intent to build a new store at South Clack Street and Village Drive that is projected to open by Spring of 2018.

The plans for the Abilene Village shopping center will now be presented to Abilene's Planning and Zoning Commission who will decide if the proposed development will move forward to City Council where members will give final word on if construction can begin.
