New evidence emerges in San Angelo 1988 cold case

SAN ANGELO, Texas (KSAN/KLST) - The Tom Green County Sheriff is evaluating evidence this week that could be sent to a lab for forensic testing in a cold murder case from 1988.

The evidence included three audio tapes with "SS" written on them, some hair and fingernail samples, and a book labeled "With Open Arms".

Investigators seized the evidence at a home in the 2700 Block of Raney street this month after acquiring a search warrant following a drug case where a 46-year-old San Angelo man lives.

The items are being analyzed in the cold murder case of two teenagers named Sally McNelly and Shane Stewart.

Their bodies were found near Twin Buttes in July of 1988.
