Two Killed, Others Injured in Texas School Bus Crash

MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas (KETK) - A Mount Pleasant High School girls track team assistant coach has died following an accident involving a bus in Titus County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety around 10:30 p.m., Thursday night, troopers responded to a three-vehicle accident on Highway 271 in Titus County, about a mile south of Talco.

Information from DPS indicates a semi was traveling north on HWY 271, while a MPISD school bus was traveling south on HWY 271, followed by a car. Officials say the driver of the semi drove into the southbound lane, hitting the school bus and the car. 

The driver of the semi and the driver of the car, identified as MPHS assistant girls' track coach Angelica Beard, 30, were pronounced dead.  Several passengers on the school bus were taken to area hospitals. The driver of the bus, Coach Van Bowen, was taken to a Tyler hospital, where he underwent surgery overnight. He is listed as being in critical condition.

Initial reports stated  four of the passengers sustained serious injuries and the rest were reported to be non-life-threatening, DPS reports.
