One Man's Trash is Another Man's Home

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) - An Abilene Business owner is taking a whole new approach to living. He has revamped an old building in Downtown Abilene and turned it into his home.

"Basically we built a brand new house with brand new plumbing and electrical," stated Tim Smith. "Everything within the walls of the building."

The building was considered condemned.

"Originally I believe it was a Ford Studebaker Auto Sales then it became a John Deere Tractor Supply," added Smith. "In the 50's it was the Boy's club for five or ten years."

When he started the project a year ago, he had some naysayers.

"That just ignited a fire inside of me. I love a challenge," Smith said.

Smith was able to salvage some of the old items from the building.

There will be an open house on Saturday from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Smith home at 817 South 2nd. It will also be a fundraiser for a close friend who is battling cancer.
