ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - A pedestrian is in critical condition after being struck by a truck in central Abilene Friday morning.
The accident happened near the intersection of N. 1st Street and Willis Street just after 11:30 a.m. Police at the scene say a woman was walking down Willis Street when she was struck by a truck that turned onto N. 1st Street.
Officers told KTAB and KRBC the woman was not using a designated crosswalk and was on her cellphone when the impact occurred.
Witnesses told KTAB and KRBC the woman was dragged for several feet before the truck came to a complete stop.
Police have confirmed the pedestrian was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
