Property rezoning suggests 2nd Abilene HEB in the works

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - A rezoning request at Thursday night's city council meeting left everyone in attendance with one question in mind - is Abilene finally getting another HEB?

Council members officially approved fuel sales at the former Compass Bank property on Buffalo Gap Road, and during the discussion, John Rose, listed on LinkedIn as HEB's Sr. Due Diligence Manager, addressed a few questions.

When asked if he was prepared to comment on whether or not there's going to be a grocery store built there, Rose replied, "I work for a grocery company. I can't give you any sort of timeframe as to when that would be, because I don't know. But I do work for a grocery company, sir."

HEB currently owns the old Lack's Furniture building 6381 Buffalo Gap Road, which is adjacent to the property rezoned for fuel sales Thursday.
