Remembering Elise Ybarra

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) - There are many heavy hearts in the community this week as a family, police, and others mourn the loss of 33-year-old Elise Ybarra.

Mark Rogers, president of the Abilene chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters, remembers her dedication to service, both on duty, and in her personal life.

Rogers says he doesn't know what first led her to volunteer, but he believes it is, "that service mindedness. Just wanting to make a difference."

In addition to her work with Abilene BBBS, Elise is remembered by extended family at ACU, where her husband Adam works as Head Athletic Trainer.

Athletics Director Lee De Leon said in a conference today that the entire campus drew together on Monday for prayer, noting that "We are family. We are going to pray, and encourage, and support each other."

Detective Ybarra is survived by her husband, Adam, and their ten-month-old daughter.
