Riot breaks out at Killeen Mall involving 30-45 people

KILLEEN, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Killeen off-duty officers and security inside the Killeen Mall reporteda large fight in the food court.

KHOU reports that Killeen police say 30-45 adults and juveniles were reportedly involved.

Multiple on-duty officers responded to restore order. Once officers arrived, the crowd dispersed, but smaller crowds persisted inside and outside the mall.

KHOU reports that officers initially received a call of shots fired. Officers were unable to verify these claims, so first responders formed a quick react team to sweep the mall. KHOU reports that officers were unable to locate armed suspects or potential victims.

The initial officers on scene were able to identify some of the main antagonists of the fight.

A vehicle with people from the riot was pointed out to police, who were able to pull the vehicle over. Two firearms were recovered from inside the vehicle, which was reported stolen from Austin.

Five people were taken into custody from the car. Three more males approached the officers who were dealing with the vehicle and were arrested as well.

Four adults and 4 juveniles were all booked on riot charges, according to KHOU. One was also charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon.

Police reported no injuries or property as a result of the riot.

According to the Killeen Police Department, fights involving more than 7 people constitute riot charges in the State of Texas.
