Sex Offender Who Failed to Arrive at Texas Transitional Center Arrested

AUSTIN, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) — A convicted sex offender who failed to arrive at a Texas transitional center was arrested Wednesday afternoon after being on the run for over a week.

Multiple media reports state Matthew Ezekiel Stager, 44, was taken custody in Washington D.C. The U.S.

These reports say the U.S. Marshals service began a nation-wide search for Stager after he failed to self-report to a a treatment center in Austin, Texas, as ordered by a judge upon his release from a Federal prison in Virginia. 

Stager was on February 2, 2017, after completing a five year sentence for failing to register as a sex offender as mandated under the Adam Walsh Act.

He has reported family in the Austin area and also has ties to at least seven other states.

Stager was initially convicted in North Carolina for Indecency with a Child in 1999.
