Sheriff's Office: Information suggests missing Abilene man is homicide victim

TOM GREEN COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Investigators now believe a man who was reported missing out of Abilene one week ago is the victim of a homicide.

Eric Vincent Torrez, 41, has not been seen or heard from since he traveled from Abilene to Tom Green County after receiving a text message about a possible job in the area on Friday, July 21, 2017, according to a press release from the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office.

The press release states his last known whereabouts were on Duckworth Road in Tom Green County just after 1:00 p.m. The release also states Torrez's ex-wife, Kristen Anne Jennings, has a residence on the 7400 block of Duckworth Road.

The Abilene Police Department told the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office Jennings had entered a residence in Taylor County the afternoon Torrez went missing, assaulted his mother, and forcibly took a 4-year-old child from inside. The press release states Jennings is the child's mother and Torrez is the father.

An evidentiary search warrant was executed at Jennings' Duckworth Road home on Tuesday and she was arrested in connection to the Taylor County incident for Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit Another Felony.

After further investigation, Jennings' husband, Stephen Lynn Jennings, and his father, Gary Lynn Jennings, were arrested for Tampering with Physical Evidence with Intent to Impair.

Torrez's truck was recovered from the parking lot of a Wal-mart in Ballinger two days after the Jennings' home was searched, according to the press release. It is now being processed for evidence.

Torrez is still missing, and the press release states, "information obtained through interviews and interrogations indicate Eric Torres is the victim of a homicide".

Anyone with information on Torrez's disappearance is asked to contact investigators at (325)655-8111. The Texas Rangers are now assisting in the investigation.
