Six Flags Over Texas removes Confederate flags, replaces all others with American flags

DALLAS, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - According to CBSDFW.com, Six Flags Over Texas will now have fewer flags flying.

The theme park has completely done away with the Confederate flag in the park, and now all other flags have been replaced with the American flag.

The park had previously flown the six flags that have flown over Texas including the Confederate States of America flag, the Mexican flag, the Spanish flag, the French flag, the Texas flag and the American flag.

CBSDFW.com reports that when asked why they didn't just remove the Confederate flag, Sharon Parker, communications manager for the park, said that "We just know the American flag is something we know we can stand behind."

The park released this statement on their decision on Friday:

“At Six Flags Over Texas, we strive every single day to make people happy and to create a fun, thrilling and safe family friendly experience for our guests. We always choose to focus on celebrating the things that unite us versus those that divide us. As such, we have changed the flag displays in our park to feature American flags.”
