Special Olympics Texas golf competition set to tee off in Abilene

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Special Olympics Texas will be returning to Abilene next weekend with another event for Big Country and Concho Valley athletes.

Special Olympics Texas will be returning to Abilene for another event, the Golf Competition.

The Special Olympics Texas Golf Competition will be Sunday, August 13 at the Diamondback Golf Course, 1600 Campus Court.

Sixteen adults with intellectual disabilities and 15 Unified Partners, those without disabilities who assist and compete with the other athletes, will be competing in three different challenges. The competitions include individual skills competition, Unified 9-hole play and Unified 18-hole play.

The athletes will be competing for medals or ribbons, depending on their performance. The athletes will also have the chance to represent their area at the state level during the Fall Classic in October in Bryan, Texas.

The day will begin with an opening ceremony at 7:30 a.m., followed by the competition from 8 a.m. to noon.
