Suspect sentenced to 6 years for Abilene child sex crime

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - A suspect has been sentenced to serve 6 years in prison for a child sex crime that happened in Abilene in November of 2014.

Morris Thomas, convicted for Indecency with a Child, received his 6-year sentence during a court proceeding Friday.

Court documents state an adult contacted police in November of 2014 after a 12-year-old child came forward and made an outcry that Thomas had inappropriate contact with her at a family gathering.

This child told the adult that "Thomas had intentionally touched her breast while they were playing hide-and-go-seek earlier in the evening," according to the documents.

Thomas told the adult he was sorry and that if anything happened it was an accident, but the documents state the child told detectives he put his hand under her shirt and that the act was intentional.

Thomas attempted to secure an appeal bond Monday so he could await his hearing outside of prison, but his request was denied.
