Sweetwater Middle School Raising Funds for Former Custodian

SWEETWATER, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Students, faculty, and staff at Sweetwater Middle School are hosting a fundraiser tomorrow in honor of a man whose impacted the entire school through his kindness and dedication.

Teacher Kit Womble says the school is hosting a blacklight Dodgeball tournament in support of Sweetwater Middle School's former head custodian, Billy Ray Robinson.

Robinson recently fell ill and is unable to work due his medical complications, according to Womble.

Womble told KTAB and KRBC Robinson has a special place in the hearts of many people throughout the school because he goes above and beyond to help the students he interacted with every day.

Womble says, "he worked hard, and cared about all of the students so much that each six weeks, he would find two students from each grade level who had worked hard and improved, and although he didn't have the finances to support it on his small salary, he would give $5 to those 6 students as a reward for their effort and behavior. He did it without telling anyone. He did it because he loves our kids."

The tournament will take place at the school on Friday at 1:00 p.m. Students have already raised hundreds of dollars for Mr. Robinson's medical bills.
