Sweetwater Mustangs Head to State Championship for First Time in 31 Years

SWEETWATER, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - The Sweetwater Mustangs are headed to the high school football state championship game for the first time in thirty-one years.

The Mustangs are going to face West Orange-Stark at AT&T in Arlington on Friday, and they have the whole town support as they head to the big game. The last time the team made is this far was in 1985. 

Stores downtown are painting their windows to spread school spirit throughout the town. Fences and signs posted all around send well wishes to the team, and several events are scheduled in celebration leading up to the big game.

The Booster Club is hosting a community-wide luncheon at the Sweetwater County Club at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, then a pep rally will take place at Sweetwater High School's new gym at 1:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend and cheer for the Mustangs.

Friday, the Booster Club is inviting anyone who makes the trip to Arlington to a pre-game tail gate at Fishbone located at 816 N. Collins Street in Arlington.

The game will take place at AT&T Stadium later. Kick-off begins at 12:00 p.m., gates open at 10:30 a.m.
