Texas Rangers investigating in-custody death of Hamlin man

HAMLIN, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - The Texas Rangers are investigating the death of a Hamlin man who died in police custody early Saturday morning. 

Officers initially contacted the suspect, who has not been identified, around 1:00 a.m. after receiving reports that he may have been throwing things in front of a local business, according to a press release from the Hamlin Police Department.

The press release states that when the suspect was taken into custody, he "was agitated and began to fight with EMS personnel". 

The suspect then collapsed while waiting for additional assistance to respond and the press release states he was pronounced deceased at a nearby hospital. 

An autopsy is currently underway and the Texas Rangers are continuing the investigation into this incident.
