Three shot, One Killed at Texas HEB

PALMVIEW, Texas (KVEO) - One suspect is behind bars this afternoon after a deadly shooting at a Texas HEB.

It happened at around 3:30 this morning at the H-E-B off Expressway 83 near Goodwin Road.

Well right now we're learning that one of the victims, 51-year-old Frailan Garza has been released from a local hospital.

The two others Bill and Raphael Martinez are now out of surgery and expected to recover.

Palmview Police Chief Christopher Barrera says a preliminary interrogation with the suspect has led them to believe his motive was paranoia.

Chief Barrera, "He felt that everybody was out to get him. The employees there were not targeted there in any way. It just so happened that they were there at the time of the shooting."

Police say the suspect identified as 25-year-old Raul Lopez. He shot into the break room at least 15 times before he fled the scene. The deceased victim 48-year-old Mario Pulido died at the scene.

An H-E-B Representative stated, "As our company mourns, our thoughts and our prayers are with the victims and their families of those affected. H-E-B is known for commitment to families and community, and we're connected and focused on assisting our partners and their families in this difficult time."

About an hour after the shooting Lopez called 911 to confess.

Chief Barrera, "He believes he didn't shoot anybody. He believes that the window was bullet proof and nobody got hurt, and that he was just scaring people. So that's what he's stating."

The suspect has been arraigned. He was charged with one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder. His bond was set at $1.9 million.
