TSTC Culinary Institute Enrollment Increase

Triple the Amount of Students join Culinary School

ABILENE, Texas (KRBC)- The Texas State Technical College of Abilene has seen a large spike in their Culinary program.

The Cullinary Insitute located off of North 1st, has had triple the amount of students within the last year.

"The previous cohort had 9 students and this cohort has almost triple, they are at 26 students currently", said Kayleen Moon, the Chef Instructor.

Culinary school isn't like a regular class.

"it is a lot of hands on, we do have instruction before but we are mainly in the kitchen learning", said Moon.

With an increase in students means less space for them to work in the kitchen.

"It does get a little crowded but it's like what any other kitchen is behind the scenes", explained Moon.

A big thanks goes to the recruitment coordinators and admissions for TSTC.

"We of course need to thank our recruiting department and they are really smoothing out our admissions down there by getting in as many students as they can, which has helped our programs grow", said Moon.

The Culinary Program is now funded differently than before.

"We are now funded by what our graduates do, after they leave here, for instance we had one student get an executive chef position in San Antonio, so we always have to thank our previous students as well for our successes." Explained Moon.

Each week a particular student get to highlight their favorite entree's by forming a menu available to the public every Tuesday and Wednesday.
