DALLAS, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Police in Dallas responded to a call in the Lakewood area that investigators are calling an "unusual case".
According to the article from cbsdfw.com, the incident began when an Uber passenger, who had been drinking, decided to show his driver the gun he was carrying.
At this time 33-year-old John Beaty was near the car and saw the gun. Thinking he was witnessing a crime but unsure of whether anyone was in danger or even who the assailant was, Beaty then pulled his own gun and fired 15 rounds into the car with at least one hitting the driver.
Beaty, an army veteran who may be suffering from PTSD, immediately began to administer first-aid to the injured driver until paramedics arrived. When police arrived Beaty was placed in handcuffs and taken to police headquarters where he was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
The driver of the Uber was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The names of the driver and passenger have not yet been released.
