ALPINE, Texas (Local 2/Fox 24) - A 54-year-old undocumented convicted murderer was arrested near Marathon over the weekend, officials with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office say.
The man, who was not identified, was arrested after he reportedly tried to use a fraudulent permanent resident card at a checkpoint.
Officials say the man was originally arrested in 1985 by the Ward County Sheriff's Office and was later convicted on a murder charge.
However, CBP agents also say that the suspect had been removed from the U.S. on two separate occasions prior to this weekend. Once back in 1996 and again in 2010.
At the checkpoint, agents learned that he was in the country illegally for the third time.
The suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated felon and re-entry after deportation.
