ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) - U.S. Senator John Cornyn made his way to Abilene today making a stop at Dyess Air Force Base.
"I'm here to listen and learn about what I can do to help this community further support our men and women in uniform," stated Senator Cornyn.
He got a chance to tour the C-130J aircraft which is a similar aircraft the Air Force used to drop the "Mother of all Bombs" in Afghanistan.
"I'm glad to see the president and our military leadership take to the fight to ISIS," added Senator Cornyn.
Having a degree in journalism the senator spoke about so-called "fake news."
"The broadcast media and newspapers and the press generally have a special responsibility but you also have a code of ethics," Senator Cornyn explained. "People who put fake news on the internet, they don't have ethics."
The commander of the base, Col. David Benson accompanied the senator during his visit.
"It was a great opportunity for us here to show him what Dyess does," Col. Benson said. "After all, it's his base, the Texas base. He takes a lot of pride in his base."
During his visit, he also presented a Prisoner of War medal to a man who's father died in the Korean war.
