Marching Towards the Dream
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. set the precedent for the equality for all, no matter the race, age or gender. Today, in observance of the holiday named in his honor, people around the country commensed in service projects, parades and marches to celebrate his legacy. In Abilene, hundreds gathered for the 34th Annual MLK March held on the Martin Luther King bridge off East Highway 80. The march was started in 1980 by local activist, Claudie Royal. And since his passing in 2008, his children, along with leaders of the black community in Abilene, have joined to carry on the tradition.
