Several taxes are going up in Taylor County. Separately the tax hikes from the county and AISD don't look bad, but together how much extra will you be paying this year?

The tax raise approved by the Abilene Independent School District is one we expected.

The proposed tax rate of $1.2175 per valuation will cost the average household in Abilene about $90 more a year. The increase will go towards service bonds that voters approved last year. This will help pay for upgrading security at all Abilene schools, three new schools, and provide teachers with a pay raise.

Taylor County is also asking for more tax money. County Judge Downing Bolls says the proposed tax raise the for the county will cost the average household just over $35 dollars more a year.

Public Hearings for the county's proposed tax rate will be on September 2th and 9th. The city public hearings are set for August 28th and September 11th.
