When summer time hits, lots of families go on vacation and college students go home. But what happens to the nonprofit organizations that rely on volunteers to help during the summer?

Meals on Wheels and the Taylor Jones Humane Society are desperately searching for volunteers this summer.

Meals on Wheels said that they lost around 50 volunteers with college students gone for the summer and their regular drivers to vacations. They hope that people from the community will come out even if it's only to deliver one meal a week.

The Taylor Jones Humane Society is always looking for volunteers year round. A board member/volunteer said that they have a few dedicated people but not enough.

However with summer break, the Humane Society does see more high school students volunteering to play with the animals.

These aren't the only nonprofit organizations in Abilene that need more volunteers and not just for the summer.

If you wish to volunteer go to to see what nonprofits need help or The Regional Victim Crisis Center has many organizations within that need help such as; Victim Assistance, Violence Prevention, Big Country CASA. 1
