BROWNWOOD, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - An off-duty Brownwood police officer was killed in a crash Wednesday evening, according to the department.
Forty-two-year-old Bryan Greenrock was killed in the crash that happened at about 6:30 p.m., on U.S. Highway 183 near County Road 334, police said.
Police said Greenrock's 11-year-old son was also in the vehicle during the crash. He suffered minor injuries.
The crash involved a second vehicle. The driver of that vehicle was airlifted to a Waco-area hospital in serious condition.
According to Brownwood police, Greenrock was born in Brownwood and had been with the department since 2013. He was previously with the Coleman Police Department and the Brown County Sheriff's Office.
"It is a sad day for the Brownwood Police Department and the Brownwood community," police said in a release. "We ask that you keep Officer Greenrock’s family and the Department family in your thoughts and prayers."
Specific details surrounding the crash were not immediately released. It remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
