Abilene is getting recognition across the state for its success in slowing synthetic drug sales once prevalent at some head shops.
Now, other Texas cities are looking to Abilene as a model for cracking down on the activity in their towns.

The Abilene Police Department says synthetic cannabinoids were a problem here in the Key City. That was until the Abilene Police Department and the city decided enough was enough and found a way to move them to industrial zones. Now, cities like Amarillo are looking into the same method that the Key City used in handling their head shops.

The city of Abilene's Planning and Zoning Committee and legal departments are in south padre island presenting the same method used here in Abilene to their city to see if this is something they would want to pursue.
