Police: Murder of Abilene Real Estate Agent "Not a Random Act"

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Police want to assure citizens that a murder in south Abilene was not a random act.

Chief of Police Stan Standridge told KTAB and KRBC the death of Tom Niblo, 54, was not the result of a burglary or robbery. He did not confirm if a suspect has been identified during the murder investigation.

Niblo was shot and killed at his home on the 3700 block of Woodridge Drive just after 6:00 a.m.

Chief Standridge says additional police units will patrol the area to give residents peace of mind.

Officers on scene told KTAB and KRBC Niblo's spouse called 9-1-1 around 6:18 a.m. to report the shooting. Police say she told the operator she escaped out of the back of the residence after hearing shots fired inside, but her husband was not able to get away.

A dog was shot as well, but Niblo's wife was not injured during the incident.

She is currently in protective custody as police continue their investigation.

Niblo was Vice President of Senter Realtors in Abilene. He also worked as a commercial agent for the company. KTAB and KRBC have reached out to Senter Realtors for a statement on Niblo's death.
