Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, Joe Straus, stopped by Abilene Friday morning to encourage citizens to vote for this proposition. He is part of the Water Texas PAC that points out that over 1,000 people move to Texas every year and the population is expected to double by 2060. In addition, during that time, our water supplies are expected to decrease by 10%.
The proposition does not raise taxes and is supported by many, including Abilene Mayor Norm Archibald.
Some people, however, are concerned as to how the money will be disbursed under Proposition 6. The Texas Water Development Board will be in charge of the 2 Billion dollars, but recently, the water board was redesigned from being made of volunteers from across the state, to three paid bureaucrats. This issue has raised concern.
