City Manager, Larry Gilley, said that the shared water will be used somewhere in the next fifty to one hundred years. Although that may seem as if it does not affect many people now, Realtor Val Smith would disagree.
Smith made it clear that although around 500,000 people move to Texas each year, that may not continue if we do not secure our water. New people and businesses are great for the local economy, but will not keep coming to our area if water is an issue and continues to be an issue in the future. Texas Realtors are in support of Proposition 6, which is one of the Texas Constitutional amendments on the ballot for the upcoming November 5th election.
The West Texas Water Partnership intends to bring together "peer cities" to have more clout when it comes to representing West Texas and trying to secure water for the area.
