The 'Rescue the Animals, SPCA' November campaign against animal abuse kicked into full gear today. This afternoon, nearly 200 ACU students completed the first leg of a two-day project. The students went door-to-door in multiple northside Abilene neighborhoods and left door hangers that explain the connection between animal neglect and other violent crimes. The group went to about 2,000 homes. Tomorrow, another group will try to reach the group's overall goal of 5,000 homes.

Taylor County Commissioner Chuck Statler and his daughter Caroline co-chairs the campaign. They joined the students today and did their part in spreading the word about animal abuse. They hope the campaign will catch the attention of residents in other areas of the Big Country through social media and word-of-mouth promotion.
