Report: Shots Fired at Robbery Suspect Hours Before Arrest

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Several shots were fired at a suspect police believe is connected to multiple robberies around town just hours before his arrest.

A report filed with the Abilene Police Department says Ayat Graves, 20, told officers an unknown suspect shot at him several times outside a home on the 2400 block of Russell Avenue just after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. "Five brass casings were collected from the roadway," according to the report.

This shooting took place a couple of hours before Graves was taken into custody for Evading Arrest. That's his only charge right now, but police told KTAB and KRBC investigators are trying to connect him to a rash of robberies around Abilene.

Detectives believe Graves is one of three individuals or organizations responsible for at least a dozen robberies that have taken place over the past few weeks.

Another suspect connected to the robbery rash, Charles Brewer, 29, was taken into custody last week and is still being held in the Taylor County Jail on bonds totaling $150,000 for both Robbery and Aggravated Robbery charges.

No other suspects have been publicly identified in connection to the robberies.
